Within the scope of the project titled “Rural Futures: Youth Empowered Through Language,” implemented by the Foreign Languages Club of Bartın University and supported under the European Solidarity Corps Project (ESC-30), a comprehensive training and promotional event was held on March 25, 2026, at Bartın University Kutlubey Campus for 11th and 12th grade students from Amasra Tourism Vocational and Technical Anatolian High School.
The event was conducted in two sessions throughout the day. In the morning session, 11th grade students and class 12-A participated, while in the afternoon session, students from classes 12-B and 12-C attended the program. With the participation of approximately 90 students in total, the event aimed to provide students with a first-hand experience of university life and opportunities to actively use English.
As part of the program, students visited the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, the Faculty of Education, the Faculty of Architecture, and the University Library, gaining close insight into various academic and social areas of the campus. At the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, Dr. Fadime Çoban Odacıoğlu and Lecturer Dr. Gamze Ar introduced the department and the university. At the Faculty of Education, Assistant Professor Dr. Burcu Ak and Assistant Professor Dr. Erdi Şimşek provided detailed information about academic processes, course content, and career opportunities. Through these visits, students gained a concrete perspective on the university selection process.
Following the faculty tours, students participated in a writing skills-focused activity at Nero Cafe, one of the project stakeholders. In this session, students had the opportunity to improve their English writing skills while expressing themselves and using the language as a real means of communication.
In the final stage of the program, the activity titled “The Pond Gathering” was held around the campus pond, focusing on speaking skills. Through warm-up games, group activities, and music-accompanied tasks, students had the opportunity to use the language in a more natural and social setting. During the event, a brief presentation was delivered introducing the structure of the Bartın University Foreign Languages Club, its ongoing projects, and its volunteer-based activities, along with information about how students could join the club.
This campus visit, carried out within the scope of the Rural Futures Project, presented a concrete example of university–school collaboration while enhancing students’ academic awareness and supporting foreign language learning through an experiential approach. In this respect, the event stands out as one of the key implementations reflecting the project’s strong impact in the field.
